Directions by car, by foot and public transportation

By Car…

From the North - (ROUTE 93 HEADING SOUTH): Take I-93 South to the “Purchase Street” Exit # 23. Take a left at the lights at the end of the ramp onto Seaport Boulevard / Moakley Bridge. At the first set of traffic lights over the bridge turn right onto Sleeper Street. At the end of Sleeper St. turn left onto Congress Street. The Boston Fire Museum is at 344 Congress St. at the corner of Farnsworth St.

From the South – (ROUTE 93 HEADING NORTH): Take I-93 North to the South Station / I-90 Exit #20. Follow signage towards I-90 East, and once in the tunnel take the first exit to “South Boston.” At the end of the ramp, at the traffic light, turn left onto Congress St. 3 tenths of a mile on your right is the Boston Fire Museum, at 344 Congress St., at the corner of Farnsworth St.

From the West – (I 90 / MASS PIKE HEADING EAST): Take Mass. Turnpike, Route 90, heading toward Logan Airport. You will be in a tunnel. Take Exit 25 / South Boston. Take a sharp right on exiting the tunnel onto By-Pass & West Service Rd.. Go a short distance to the traffic light. Turn Right and travel to the first light. Turn left onto Congress St. The Boston Fire Museum is at 344 Congress St. at the corner of Farnsworth St.

By Public Transportation

Take the Silver Line Bus (SL1) from South Station heading towards Logan Airport / Chelsea.  Exit the bus at the first stop named, COURTHOUSE.  At the street level cross over Seaport Boulevard.  Walk down Thomson Place. and turn right onto Congress St. The museum will be on you right, 350 yards from the Courthouse bus stop. 

By Foot

The museum is 1/2 mile from South Station. Walk North along Atlantic Ave.  Turn right at the first traffic light, Congress St.  Walk over the bridge, past the Tea Party and Children’s Museums.  The fire museum will be on your left at 344 Congress St.

Where do you park..

PARKING METERS

Limited on street parking is available.  Parking rates are not consistent.  If you find a metered space be sure to read the instructions on the meter or posted on the sidewalk.

PARKING GARAGE

The Farnsworth Street Garage is located behind the museum.  The garage only accepts credit cards.
